Discovering Corals is an environmental education programme that brings the world of corals and marine ecosystems closer to schools, universities, organisations and the general public.
Through engaging talks, participatory activities, games, videos and virtual reality, participants discover what corals are, why they are important for marine ecosystems and the main threats they face.
The programme connects education, science and conservation, using the knowledge generated through our projects to bring marine research closer to society.
We believe in education that is open, inclusive and accessible to everyone, regardless of their abilities, social or cultural background, sexual diversity or gender identity.
We bring knowledge and experience to people with functional diversity, groups at risk of social exclusion, women’s groups, older people, educational centres and the general public, paying particular attention to the characteristics and needs of each group.
To achieve this, we adapt activities, content and methodologies, using different resources that enable everyone to participate, discover and learn about the marine environment, promoting inclusion, equal opportunities and a connection with the ocean.
We explain in an accessible and engaging way what corals are, how they live, the role they play in marine ecosystems and why we need to protect them.
Games, interactive activities and challenges that allow participants to learn about biodiversity, climate change and conservation in a practical and enjoyable way.
We bring the underwater world closer to participants through immersive experiences that allow them to explore coral ecosystems without having to enter the water.
We show how corals are studied and which techniques are used to understand, restore and conserve these ecosystems.
Through Discovering Corals, we aim to turn knowledge into a tool for conservation, inspiring curiosity and commitment to our seas.
Because we can only protect what we know.
