The first step to saving the coral reef

Scientific Waste Removal

The seabed sanitation plan consists of the meticulous removal of every single piece of debris that accumulates on the seafloor and endangers marine species. To ensure the effectiveness of the techniques and low-impact action, all operations are carried out following a strict protocol and step-by-step methodology:
First, the debris is located and documented to plan its extraction using the least intrusive method as detailed in the protocols.

Next, the debris is prepared for removal, freeing any species that are entangled or growing on it. Once the debris has been extracted, it is gathered and prepared for flotation to the surface, where the support team is ready to lift it onto the boat. Upon arrival at the port, a preliminary wet analysis is conducted, where the weight provides an idea of the extraction effort, but not the actual waste. Therefore, the debris is accumulated in containers for drying, after which a more meticulous dry-weight analysis is performed to obtain the final impact data.
